Land Acknowledgment
Wisdom Grove honors and acknowledges that we gather—both physically and virtually—on lands with deep Indigenous roots.
My physical location rests on the ancestral homelands of the Council of Three Fires—the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Potawatomi—and many other tribes who lived on, traveled through, and tended these lands for generations, including the Illinois, Miami, Sauk, Fox, Kickapoo, and Ho-Chunk peoples.
I recognize that throughout what is now called the United States, Indigenous peoples were displaced from their ancestral territories through treaties made under duress, forced removal, and systematic oppression. The land beneath our feet—wherever we stand—carries the memory of those who stewarded it long before colonial borders were drawn.
Today, Indigenous communities continue to thrive, keeping their histories, languages, and cultures alive. The Chicago region alone is home to approximately 65,000 Indigenous peoples representing more than 175 tribal nations.
As I guide others on their spiritual journeys through Wisdom Grove, I commit to honoring the wisdom of Indigenous peoples who have always understood the sacred connection between land, spirit, and community. Their teachings about our relationship with the Earth remind us that we are all guests here, called to be respectful stewards.
I am grateful for the opportunity to do this work on these lands, and I commit to ongoing learning, listening, and support of Indigenous communities and their sovereignty.
This acknowledgment is a living document and a starting point for continued action, not an endpoint. I welcome feedback and guidance from Indigenous voices.
